If a business meets certain requirements, they will have to be registered under the GST scheme. If a business has its branches in more than one state, then it will have to be registered under the GST scheme in each one of them if it meets certain conditions. If a business owner has a different building for their business in each state, they will have to register their businesses using each address accordingly. This can prove to be very difficult.
However, if a business uses a virtual office address, they can register their business using the same address in all of the states. This will help them save a lot of time and they will not have to stress themselves out unnecessarily either.

When is Multi-State Registration Required
The business owner only needs to obtain registration for a state if they have an office there and provide services there. If they rarely provide services in that particular state, then they do not need to get registration for that state.
Differences that arise because of the GST scheme
These are some of the differences that business owners have to deal with under the GST scheme:
- Business owners will have to learn the new set of rules that come under GST
- Most businesses may have branches in more than one state so they will have to face assessment in many states
- Most of them would have to obtain registration in new states
- Before, someone would have to only obtain registration for the place that they were headquartered at even if they operated in multiple states. Now, under the new GST scheme, the total tax has to break down accordingly for each state and then paid
Registering across multiple states with Office Address(using Virtual Office)
One of the advantages of having a virtual office is that it is much cheaper to use compared to a regular office. Using the address of the virtual office, the business owner can register their business across multiple states. Thus, they will not have to register each office building in each state separately like they would have to if they were not using a virtual office in India. This means that they can save a lot of extra paperwork by this method. Registering their business will become much easier than normal.

GST Registration Process
These are the steps that have to be followed in order to register a place of business under GST:
Submitting required details
The first thing that the applicant will have to do is enter their PAN, mobile number and email address details in Part-A of Form GST REG-01. This can be done through the GSTN(Good and Services Tax Network) or through the facilitation centre.
Verification of details
The applicant’s PAN will be verified on the GST portal and their other details will be verified with OTPs. The applicant will then receive an application reference number on their phone and email(according to the details that they have provided).
Entering application reference number
The applicant will have to enter the application reference number that they have received in Part-B of Form GST REG-01. This form can then be submitted after all the other required documents have been attached.
Provide additional information if required
Form GST REG-03 will be issued to the applicant if they have to enter additional information. They will then have to enter whatever additional information is required in Form GST REG-04 within 7 working days from the day that they obtained the receipt of Form GST REG-03.
Receiving Form GST REG-06
If all the required information has been successfully provided by the applicant in the previous forms, they will be issued Form GST REG-06 for their principal place of business as well every additional piece of business(other locations where the business has to be registered). If the information that the applicant has submitted has proved to be unsatisfactory, then the GST REG-06 will be issued to them indicating the rejection of their request for registration.
